İş Sürekliliği, bir işletmenin yaşamını etkileyebilecek her
türlü kesinti durumunda hizmet vermeye devam edebil-
mesi için uygulaması gereken süreç, kural, karar ve etkin-
liklerden oluşur.
İş Sürekliliği kavramınının geçmişine bakıldığında, 2000 yılı
sorunuyla birlikte öneminin hem dünyada hem Türkiye’de
arttığı görülmektedir. O dönemde eski bilgisayar donanım
ve yazılımlarında sıkça kullanılan iki rakamlı yıl bilgisinin
son iki hanesinin sıfırlanmasının yaratacağı sorunlar gün-
demdeydi. Buna yönelik sorun yaratabilecek tüm donanım
ve yazılımlar elden geçirilerek test edildi ve değiştirildi.
Ancak tüm önlemler alınmasına rağmen hala gözden
kaçan yazılım ve donanım sorunları olma ihtimali vardı.
Bu riski göze almak istemeyen işletmeler daha önce pek
önem vermedikleri Felaket Kurtarma Planları’nı (Disaster
Recovery Plan) geliştirmeye başladılar. İş Sürekliliği
(Business Continuity) kavramı da ilk kez o planlarla birlikte
doğmuş oldu.
Felaket Kurtarma, Acil Durum ya da kısa adıyla İngilizce’de
DR (Disaster Recovery) olarak da adlandırılan kavram çoğu
zaman İş Sürekliliği süreci ile de karıştırılmaktadır. Felaket
Business continuity comprises processes, rules, decisions
and competencies required for a business to continue pro-
viding its services in case of a major interruption in busi-
ness operations.
Looking at the evolution of the concept of Business
Continuity, it is seen that its importance has increased both
in the world and in Turkey with the problem of year 2000. In
those years, there was the issue of possible problems that
could be caused by replacement of last two digits of date
used in most computers and software at that time with
double zeros. All hardware and software that could cause
issues due to this change were all reviewed and tested and
changed. However despite all precautions, there was still
the possibility of certain software and hardware problems
to occur. Businesses unwilling to take such risks, started
to develop Disaster Recovery Plans which that they had
previously ignored to a great extent. And the concept of
Business Continuity was born for the first time with those
plans.
The concept known as Disaster Recovery is most often
confused with the Business Continuity process. While a
